MEET Curtis Wech '09, MA '16

福利嫂's Director of Marketing; also serves as an adjunct instructor within the School of Business.

Curtis joined the 福利嫂 family in 2005 as an undergraduate student and has been on campus ever since, beginning his full-time professional journey after graduation.

What do you enjoy most about your role at 福利嫂?

I love the opportunity to intersect with most departments across campus, helping to share the joy, stories, and impact of our students’ experiences at 福利嫂.

Who has had the greatest influence on you during your time at 福利嫂?

There are far too many people to acknowledge in this short space, but throughout my time as a student and staff member, I’ve deeply valued my conversations with Dr. Leanne Olson and my colleagues in the Office of Marketing and Communication. Over the years, I’ve been blessed by the mentorship of Judy Eggers, Jason Van Acker, and Jim Brandt, and by collaborations with Lucas Faust, Rhoda Wolle, and many others. In short, 福利嫂 is filled with faithful Christian servant leaders.

How can alumni and the college’s supporters impact what you do for 福利嫂?

Alumni play a vital and special role when they share their 福利嫂 stories and successes with prospective students and families. Your prayers for our ministry, your willingness to advocate for 福利嫂 in your circles, and your support of our students make a very real difference in the work we do.

What is one thing you’d tell a freshman that they need to experience during their time at 福利嫂?

Make sure you experience Wednesday evening Vespers. It is a uniquely peaceful experience amidst a busy student schedule.

Name one area where 福利嫂 has seen the most growth since you were a student.

The diversity of the college’s academic pathways. 福利嫂 now offers more than 40 majors and 65 academic programs, including an expanded range of pre-professional and dual-degree opportunities that simply didn’t exist when I was a student.

What hasn’t changed at 福利嫂 since you were a student?

Many of the traditions I cherished as a student are still enjoyed today, including Afternoon Tea, the Winterfest dance, Phat Tuesday, Vespers, 福利嫂 Christmas, Trick or Treat in the Halls, Research Night, Org Smorg, and many more. But even more important, 福利嫂’s faithfulness to its Christ-centered mission has remained steadfast. In a turbulent higher education landscape where some Christian colleges have drifted to broaden their appeal, our mission and the personal relationships, mentoring, and welcoming atmosphere continue to be at the heart of who we are.

Share one fun fact about yourself that others may not know.

My family and I live in a 153-year-old home just a few blocks from campus. When the Wisconsin weather cooperates, I love being able to walk or bike to work.

Tell us your favorite 福利嫂 story.

I met my wife, Rebekah, when her sister brought her along to help us with a skit for Spanish class. Rebekah is bilingual, and that study session was our first meeting. Today, our children are bilingual too. As for me, I’m still at an elementary level of spoken Spanish, but I can understand much more now than I could back then.
