St. John is the county seat of Stafford count and is located on US-281 along the Wetlands and Wildlife National Scenic Byway and just three miles north of US-50. The city originally stood under the name of "Zion Valley" until it was renamed for political reasons. Also, close by for visitors when driving along the scenic byway is the Quivira National Wildlife Refuge.
Interesting fact: A bishop was said to have asked God to protect the town of St. John from tornados. To this day, a tornado has never touched down in the town.
