Even though the old Pony Express was known for horseback riding, visitors today can enjoy a much wider selection of outdoor activities while on the byway. Most nature enthusiasts take the time to enjoy the Blue River Rail Trail, one of the most scenic trails in Northeast Kansas for hiking and cycling. Those who enjoy spending time on the fairway will also enjoy driving the byway, as it is close to numerous golf and disc golf courses.
