Kansans have always been known for reaching for the stars. For pushing boundaries of society. For blazing a trail above and beyond.
But it hasn't been without struggle.
Our state motto Ad Astra Per Aspera - 'To the Stars Through Difficulties' - serves as an inspiration for all who call Kansas home.
Many trailblazers have remained unknown to history, their stories lost to time, their struggles forgotten. That's why we've assembled the stories of six Kansans you may not know (but should) - to shed light on the struggles that shaped our state and the stories of those who helped guide our path forward.
The Kansas 250 Commission is the official organization responsible for leading the state's efforts to commemorate America's Semiquincentennial throughout 2026. The Kansas 250 Commission works closely with local communities and partner organizations to provide a wide array of activities and events focused on America's 250th birthday.
