Kansas: Strength Through Struggle

In honor of America's 250th birthday, the state is highlighting those who have shown perseverance through our history.

Kansans have always been known for reaching for the stars. For pushing boundaries of society. For blazing a trail above and beyond.

But it hasn't been without struggle.

Our state motto Ad Astra Per Aspera - 'To the Stars Through Difficulties' - serves as an inspiration for all who call Kansas home.

Many trailblazers have remained unknown to history, their stories lost to time, their struggles forgotten. That's why we've assembled the stories of six Kansans you may not know (but should) - to shed light on the struggles that shaped our state and the stories of those who helped guide our path forward.
