Kansas Byways

Kansas has 12 designated byways ready for you to explore. These scenic and historic routes have formed over the course of over a thousand years, where major geologic shifts have shaped the state's landscape to create a scenic backdrop for travelers to enjoy to this very day. Traveling the byways of Kansas allows visitors to get a sense of just how beautiful the state can be, and in addition to each byway holding significant aesthetic value, they also allow for you to trace the routes of early expeditions and experience the places where history unfolded.

Nine of the byways in Kansas are considered scenic routes, while the other four are historic ones. Among the scenic byways, two hold national recognition: the Flint Hills National Scenic Byway and the Wetlands & Wildlife National Scenic Byway.
